what's new and cool

It's September, the kids are back in school and I am looking forward to getting back to blogging and creating  new
art!

The past month I have been busy learning something
 entirely different...metalsmithing...

I took an online class with Stephanie Lee that was very cool! The exciting news is that she is offering the online class again soon and registration starts September 8th. You can go here if you are interested in learning more. Stephanie teaches a lot of techniques...soldering, making bezels and chains, etching, patina, resin, casting solder to make charms...all can be transferred to mixed media as well as jewelry. Many of these techniques are not so easy to pick up without instruction. If you are looking for something new to add to your art.. I highly recommend this course...plus you get to use power tools! Her videos are all short.. 5 minutes or less and very informative and she is always available to answer the many questions she receives. There is also a yahoo group site where members can communicate and help each other.

Keep your eyes open for an upcoming giveaway here soon. I'm thinking some textile goodies for the creative muse...

Oh that sounds like fun! I just joined Of Towers and Turrets with Sharon Tomlinson and Deryn Mentock and Deryn is teaching the metal part with soldering, rivet making, bezel making and resin and other "stuff" with metal. Since I don't even wear jewelrybut am fascinated with metal I keep envisioning all this metal and fabric mixed up together for some fun projects. So it must be that great minds think alike for you and me Lisa. LOL ;-)

Hello Lisa
We were in class together, as it turns out. I LOVED Stephanie's class and couldn't resist signing up for Round 2! :-)

Oh Metalsmithing is such fun!! I was really into it way back when, when i was in my teens. Then I got out of the groove and had to work for a living and sold my tools- BIIIIGGGG MIstake !! I so wish that I had them now. These skills have stood by me well however; this is where i picked up my fastidious habits for finsihing all of my art pieces- no matter what the media!!! Cant wait to see what you are creating!!! Becca started back to school today finally!! Happy Fall!!
Hugs!

while you were taking an online metal working workshop this past month, I was taking an altered digital imagery workshop- looks like we have both been busy.

I want to take that course so badly! I took Stephanie's journalling course in the Spring and it was fantastic - I am just too darn busy this Fall to add anything else to the pile - I hope you'll post pictures soon? I would love to see some of what you made...
