"Every act of creation is first of all an act of destruction"
-Pablo Picasso

Last night we attended the Baltimore School for the Arts gala
where we saw an amazing performance by the most talented groups
of high school kids ever. The hour long show was more fabulous
than any show I've ever watched!

The school encompasses four arts disciplines: music, theatre,
dance and visual arts. Admission is highly competitive with
approximately 70 kids out of 1200 auditioning receiving admission
each year. Each school day is about 12 hours long
including academics and arts...

We won the ballet shoes at the silent auction...the worn toe shoes are placed in the five basic positions of ballet. When I spotted this I knew I had to have this remarkable, unique work of art...a story of tenacity and dedication. As we were leaving with the piece some of the dance students remarked how the shoes weren't really that
worn out and who had they belonged to anyway?

What a wonderful piece of art!!! I love it. I'll have to show this to our youngest daughter. She's a dance major and has her worn ballet shoes hanging on her wall in 5th position. The gala sounds fabulous too.
